Good evening Sand Creek. This is Steve Laundra with an important update regarding our School Meals Program.
By the end of this Friday, Sand Creek Community Schools will have served nearly 12,000 meals to our children in the last three weeks. That said, it is becoming apparent that some individuals are double dipping meals by picking up food at multiple locations. While all children under the age of 18 are entitled to receive one school breakfast and one school lunch per day, we cannot sustain this program if people take more than the allotted amount of meals. Currently we’re distributing these meals for 2-3 days at a time. So I want to make this clear, while we offer multiple pick-up times and locations, picking up meals at more than one location on the same day is prohibited. Most recently, several families had to be turned away when the school ran out of meals. Without the abuse, this wouldn’t have happened.
As mentioned in last Sunday’s announcements our food distribution plan for the week of April 6- 10 (spring break) will be different. Meals for that week are being be provided to us by I-92 Ministries out of Clinton, MI. Food for that entire week will be boxed and distributed one box per child on Monday, April 6th from 4 -6 pm at the Ruth McGregor Elementary School. This will be the only pick-up day, only pick-up site and only pick-up time window for next week. Parents unable to pick up meals at the school can call the school to request meal delivery. Picking up meals for other families will no longer be allowed. I’d like to thank I-92 Ministries for this much appreciated charitable contribution. Because of them, the school is able to provide both of our kitchen staffs and volunteers a week away from the tireless duties they’ve been performing the last three weeks. Stay tuned for more information regarding school meals starting the week of April 13-17, as more schedule changes are likely.
Sand Creek Schools is doing its best to provide our children with needed meals, but we need your cooperation and your integrity. Abusing this system will only jeopardize its existence, so please be mindful of the intent of this program.
