We have had a wonderful start to our school year! We are thrilled to announce a new addition to our curriculum this year! Our Sand Creek Community Schools Board of Education recently adopted a new Social Emotional Learning Curriculum called Lion’s Quest that is being used Pre-K through 12th grade that aligns with our school district’s mission statement. This curriculum is being used along with our existing Capturing Kids Hearts program.
We value relationships at Sand Creek and after learning of a need last spring from our student body we felt that the social skills along with the emotional development was a crucial part of our students’ overall development. Our school district also formed a 10 person Social Emotional team comprised of elementary, junior high and high school staff along with administration that committed to meeting monthly to discuss the progress of our program and the impact Lion’s Quest is having across our district.
Students receive a video message from the elementary principal every Monday stating our social emotional objective, a quote for the week as well as an action piece for the students to focus on throughout the week. Teachers then deliver a 25-30 minute lesson during the week and look for ways to incorporate their lesson throughout the day. It is our sincere hope that this new addition will positively impact our students so that they can go out into our world better prepared for their future and are ready to make a difference in today’s society.
We are excited to be having Parent Teacher Conferences November 12th and 13th. As always we enjoy sharing our student progress and discussing how each of our students are doing at school. Please plan on attending this great opportunity to partner with our school to best support your child. Communication is very important to us at Ruth McGregor Elementary. Feel free to email, call or make an appointment to meet with a teacher should you have questions or concerns prior to conference time. Thank you for sharing your child with us!
Make today great,
Ruth McGregor Elementary Principal
