The varsity boys basketball team lost a heartbreaker on Thursday night against BD with a final score of 48-46. The Aggies came out fighting but untimely injuries and foul trouble would hold them back all night. Andon Sutherland led the charge for the guys with 19 points including 5 threes and shooting over 70%. Sutherland and Carmody also led the rebounds for the team with 5 each. Grady Hazelwood netted 11 points on the night. Team-wide the guys only had 7 turnovers so they did a fantastic job of taking care of the ball! Ben Wheeler led by example with stiff defense and the defense in general kept the Aggies within striking distance on a night where the shots just were not falling. The guys return to action tonight vs. Morenci at the Bulldogs' house where they look to avenge an early season loss.

The boys varsity basketball team came out with a huge win vs. Summerfield on Homecoming last Friday. Going down early, Summerfield opened the game with several shots falling putting the Aggies down 17-0 in the first 5 minutes. The Aggies charged back to bring the game to a 9-point deficit at half. Coming out of half the Bulldogs ran again putting the Aggies down by 21. The Aggies did not roll over and charged back cutting the game to 10 points late in the 4th. With 40 seconds left Grady Hazelwood hit a deep three to start the comeback run. Gavin Eack had a strip layup shortly after to cut the lead to 5. Parker Strahan set up for a charge call turning the Bulldogs over again. The next turn of events found Andon Sutherland for another deep three in front of the home bench to get the game within striking distance, down only 2. Gaining possession again the Aggies executed a baseline inbounds play that found Andon Sutherland in the corner with 8 seconds left putting the Aggies up by 1. The Bulldogs ran it down the floor and with 2.6 seconds left Andon Sutherland stepped into the lane to secure the steal and get fouled, putting 1 of the free throws in. The Bulldogs tried a half courter but were well defended down the court by Parker Strahan. When the buzzer rang the Aggies were on top 62-60 and the student section stormed the court! Gavin Eack led the scoring for the Aggies with 14 points, followed by Chase Voorhees with 12, and Andon Sutherland with 10. Great all around effort!
