On Monday, February 23rd, the Lady Aggies' 8th grade basketball team hosted Morenci for a home matchup. They went into halftime with a 13-11 lead and maintained their advantage through the end of the fourth quarter.
Morenci rallied late to tie the game and force overtime.
The girls battled through an intense double-overtime matchup but ultimately fell to Morenci 33-29 at the end of the second overtime. Overall, the girls fought hard, played as a team, and ran our plays well, creating open opportunities and good looks at the basket. The so played tough with aggressive defense throughout the game.
Cooper Robinson, Grace Hassenzahl, and Pepper Howard led the team in scoring.

The Aggies found themselves in early foul trouble on Monday night in the boys basketball district matchup vs Clinton. 3 minutes into the game the Aggies had found themselves on the short end of the whistle and the Redwolves were already shooting bonus shots, and the foul deficit had grown to 7-1 within the blink of an eye. With several players already in deep trouble, the Aggies were forced to sit starters for the entire first half, and the game revolved around the referees’ whistles from that point until the final horn blew. Unable to overcome the uphill battle, the Aggies fell 48-57. Grady Hazelwood was one of the few that was able to avoid the ire of the whistle and was able to play hard all night leading the Aggies with a 20 point night. Gavin Eack was also able to chip in 11 points. All in all the Aggies finish the season 4-18, but the record does not reflect how much progress the team made in the last month alone. Big things are on the horizon for these guys and the program in the coming years. I'm so proud of the tenacity that was displayed throughout the season. It would have been easy to pack it in and call it a season, but the guys never did that. They played hard and gave some really good teams a run for their money. Can't wait for next season.

The Sand Creek Board of Education thanks the community and staff for their participation and dedication throughout the superintendent search process.

Three of the five candidates selected for interviews this week have withdrawn their candidacy. While the two remaining candidates are strong, the Board believes it is in the best interest of the district to ensure a broader pool of finalists before making a decision.

This week's interviews are now canceled. The Board is currently evaluating next steps and will determine how to proceed at a special meeting, which is open to the public, tomorrow, Wednesday, February 25 at 6:00 p.m.

The Board remains committed to conducting a thoughtful and thorough search to select the next superintendent for Sand Creek Community Schools.

Sixth grade students read "Monkey's Paw" and worked for the defense, prosecution, or jury to write their claims as to why their client was guilty or not guilty. The jury had to listen to the evidence and make a decision.

In their final regular season game the guys took care of business and defeated Addison 78-68. Andon Sutherland led the aggies with 21 points, including 5 threes. Chase Voorhees netted 20 points, followed by Landon Carmody with 18, and Grady Hazelwood with 13. Parker Strahan cleaned up the boards last night with 10 rebounds. The aggies continued their streak of out-rebounding their opponent last night as a team. The win was great and these stat leaders deserve their praise, but the last month these boys have really come together as a whole. The culture and brotherhood is at the highest level that the basketball team has seen in a long time and I want to shout the whole team out for that. Each guy has contributed their 1/5th plus some. I’ve seen hugs and high fives, these guys picking each other up when they are going through it, going out to hang out after games with open invitation to everyone. We did not finish the season with very many wins on the record, but the victories we have achieved as a team are what we are most proud of. Our sights are now on the post season on Monday v Clinton @ Manchester, where the Aggies will fight for the first district game win in over a decade. Please join us.
