TUTORING
Free virtual tutoring services are available to K-12 students throughout the state of Michigan. Tutors are comprised of volunteer GVSU community members and include faculty, staff, students, alumni, retirees, etc. Volunteers have indicated grade bands and subjects they are comfortable working with and must pass a GVSU background check prior to working with students. To ensure continuity of services, there will also be a handful of students who are hired to work consistent tutoring hours and service those most in need.

Good afternoon Sand Creek. This is Steve Laundra with a few important announcements regarding tonight’s 7pm varsity football game at Sand Creek.
While it’s hurtful & disappointing that the entire Aggie Nation is not able to attend tonight’s Tri-County Conference championship football game due to the pandemic and current Michigan Department of Health & Human Services orders, I want to let you know that our school district has gone the extra mile to provide you with an upgraded live stream video production of tonight’s game. Watching this championship football game live from the device of your choice tonight is your next best option to being here, and I’m pleased we can provide the fans of both schools this virtual opportunity. Unfortunately, if you don’t have a ticket to tonight’s game, you are not allowed to be on our school property during the event. To stream the game, simply go to the Sand Creek Athletic Department Facebook page to access the live broadcast, and/or to enjoy watching it later this weekend. Tonight’s live stream is being provided by Red Letter Productions of Onsted, MI.
For those of you fortunate enough to have received tickets from one of our game participants, our gates will open tonight at 6pm. Masks and 6 feet social distancing is required throughout the entire event. Our concession stand will be open with a limited menu, and Maria’s Mexican Food truck from The Sunnyside Café will also be serving food from inside our football facility. In addition to tonight’s TCC showdown, the Sand Creek High School Marching Band will be performing for the first time this season at half-time. Tonight’s game also features our pre-game varsity football and varsity sideline cheer Parents Night program. Varsity football and cheer parents should be inside the gate and registered no later than 6:25pm. The Parents Night program will begin at 6:35pm.
Thank you for your continued support of Sand Creek Community Schools, and best wishes to the Sand Creek Aggie varsity football team and the entire Aggie Football Nation tonight. We are very proud of our football team, our cheer team and our Marching Band, and we wish them all the very best tonight.
Thank you. Have a great weekend. And GO AGGIES!

The Sand Creek Fall Band Concert for students in 6th, 7th and 8th will be this Tuesday, October 13th at 7:00 p.m. at the football stadium. Concert details are posted on student’s google classroom. Check in for all band members and guests starts at 6:20 p.m. This concert is not open to the public and each band member is able to bring a maximum of six guests for this concert.

Good evening Sand Creek. This is Steve Laundra from Sand Creek Community Schools with an important announcement regarding our JH/HS Face to Face students and parents.
Yesterday afternoon, our school district was informed that one of our high school students had just tested positive for COVID-19. With limited experience in handling this type of situation and time to complete the required contact tracing, I made the decision to error on the side of safety by cancelling face to face education for today in favor of virtual education. This decision allowed us the necessary time to sort out and decide what needed to be done. After consulting with the Lenawee County Health Department, this morning we contacted the parents of 49 high school students that are considered to have been in “close contact” with the student who tested positive. This group of 49 students, along with one teacher, is required to self-quarantine at home through October 23rd. None of these students can return to school until that point, even if they test negative before October 23rd.
That stated, Sand Creek Community Schools will be resuming face to face education at the JH/HS effective tomorrow, minus our 49 quarantined students. Our decision to return is based on the fact that we only have ONE confirmed case of Covid-19. Should that number grow, we may decide to go back to virtual education only until we’re out of the woods again. We apologize for the inconvenience today may have caused JH/HS parents.
For the record, anytime F2F education gets cancelled in favor of virtual education, whether it’s for a snow day or a COVID-19 day like today, it is a school district and teacher expectation that all face to face students log into their respective Google Classrooms to access learning information, assignments and scheduled “Google Meet” opportunities.
Also, Sand Creek’s Fall Homecoming Week has been postponed to a week and date to be determined after October 23rd. This includes postponing our homecoming Spirit week and theme dress-up days this week. Fall homecoming has been postponed.
Lastly, Coach Benge has cancelled girl’s high school basketball morning open gyms for the rest of this week.

REMINDER: Today is a virtual instruction day for all 6-12 students. Each teacher will be offering a google meet for each hour for any student who is able to join. Assignments will be posted in google classroom and need to be completed by the assigned deadline.

This is Sharon Smith calling from Sand Creek Schools. I am calling with an important announcement for all 6-12th grade students and staff.
There will be no face to instruction tomorrow, Monday October 12th, for students in the Jr/Sr High Building. Tomorrow will be a virtual day for all students in grades 6-12th while we investigate a positive COVID—19 case within the school. We will be making individual calls tomorrow to inform students and staff identified as close contacts regarding any quarantine instructions.
In addition, there will be no JH or HS volleyball practice or games tomorrow.
All 6-12th grade building teachers, office staff and custodians must report at their normal times.

In light of the Michigan Supreme Court’s Friday ruling regarding Governor Whitmer’s executive orders, all Michigan school districts are scrambling for answers as to what this means for schools today and beyond. Sand Creek Community Schools’ short term decision in this regard is to error on the side of student safety by continuing to abide by the executive orders in question until a better informed decision on how to move forward can be made. Within the next 2-3 business days, Sand Creek Schools will inform our employees, students and parents on what direction our school district is headed, and what those timelines look like.
To the point, this short term decision translates into face masks being required in our elementary classrooms today, as specified in the most recent executive order, until further notice. In addition, all other Covid-19 safety protocols and procedures put in place by our board of education also remain in place until further notice.
The timing of the recent Supreme Court order put schools in a tough position this morning. That stated, our school district’s short-term decision in this regard is consistent with what other Lenawee County Schools have also decided to do. Stay tuned as we take a business day or two to sort this all out and to make a better informed decision. Again, thank you for your continued patience as we continue to roll through the trials and tribulations of the pandemic in our community. Have a great Aggie week everyone, and stay tuned to school announcements as to what and when, if anything, will change down the short-term road. Thank you.

Parents: Please take a moment to answer the very short Parent Survey that was posted to the Sand Creek Schools Facebook and Website Thursday evening. Mr. Laundra referred to this survey in his State of the District address on Thursday night. We are asking you to answer this short, one question survey regarding your choice of your student’s instructional learning plan. https://forms.gle/pxTxVEPdEqWEKnk88
