Sand Creek Community Schools

In light of the Michigan Supreme Court’s Friday ruling regarding Governor Whitmer’s executive orders, all Michigan school districts are scrambling for answers as to what this means for schools today and beyond. Sand Creek Community Schools’ short term decision in this regard is to error on the side of student safety by continuing to abide by the executive orders in question until a better informed decision on how to move forward can be made. Within the next 2-3 business days, Sand Creek Schools will inform our employees, students and parents on what direction our school district is headed, and what those timelines look like. To the point, this short term decision translates into face masks being required in our elementary classrooms today, as specified in the most recent executive order, until further notice. In addition, all other Covid-19 safety protocols and procedures put in place by our board of education also remain in place until further notice. The timing of the recent Supreme Court order put schools in a tough position this morning. That stated, our school district’s short-term decision in this regard is consistent with what other Lenawee County Schools have also decided to do. Stay tuned as we take a business day or two to sort this all out and to make a better informed decision. Again, thank you for your continued patience as we continue to roll through the trials and tribulations of the pandemic in our community. Attention Seniors Your yearbook and composite photo will be taken on the morning of Tuesday, October 6th. Please have your form and payment ready on the 6th. If you have lost your form, please see Mrs. Scheu-Millek ASAP. Virtual students, you received your form when you picked up your textbooks. MiPHY Survey Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth Survey or MiPHY will be accessed by all 8th, 10th and 12th grade students on Friday Oct. 10th. These students were given information to take home regarding the survey and the opting out of taking the survey option. This information is also posted on our website. Virtual students will get the link information on Wednesday Oct. 7th and then be asked to join their class on Friday to take the survey. This survey generally takes about 35-45 minutes. Jr./Sr. High School Fall 2020 Testing Schedule: SAT with Essay for current Seniors will be on Wednesday October 14th PSAT 9 for current 9th graders will be on Wednesday October 21st PSAT/NMSQT for 10th and 11th graders on Thursday October 29th All testing will take place from 8am until approximately noon. Virtual students will be tested in the school building but with separation from our Face-to-Face students. If a student will need transportation to or from the school on any of the testing dates, please contact the school by October 9th.

Sand Creek Community Schools Presents the 2020/2021 Fall Homecoming Court. The crowning of homecoming court will take place on October 16th at approximately 10:22 a.m. and will be live streamed on the Sand Creek facebook page.

6th-12th grade Virtual Students: Your pictures have arrived and may be picked up in the high school office between 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Anyone in grades 6-8 interested in joining the junior high cheer team must do so no later than this Friday. Practices are every day after school from 3-5 at the varsity football field near the press box. All athletes must have a current sports physical or completed MHSAA Health Questionnaire (for returning athletes only). If you have questions, be sure to stop by the office or speak with Coach Adams.

Sand Creek Community Schools will run on a 3-Hour Delay for students next Monday, October 5th in order to train all school district employees on our recently purchased and installed door boot security smart system. The Sunday Alert stated that we would be running on a two-hour delay, however for school transportation purposes, this morning we realized that we needed a 3 hour delay to make this work logistically. We will get this corrected with our parents.

According to the Governor’s Executive Order, attendance at athletic contests is limited to 2 spectators per participant. There can be no exceptions to this order. In order to allow the community to watch the games, we are planning to live stream the home events on Facebook at Sand Creek Athletics. Additionally, we cannot have spectators on school grounds who do not have a ticket to the contest. The only spectators allowed on campus are those with tickets to be inside the fence. Sand Creek Schools would appreciate it if you would spread the word about attending and watching online all Aggie home football games. For those individuals with tickets to the game, please remember to • Wear Your Mask at All Times • 6 feet Social Distancing • Sit at/Stand on the marked Blue Lines only • Eat only at your seat with social distancing • No re-entry to the event And finally, there will also be no re-entry to the game for any reason.

The deadline to purchase the 2020/2021 Chromebook Device insurance is this Friday, September 18th, 2020. Insurance payments must be paid in full prior to the start of the coverage on www.myschoolbucks.com. The insurance runs from September 2020 to September 2021; covering the entire school year.

Virtual Wednesday Lunch for Jr./Sr. High School Face-to-Face Students All Face-to-face Jr./Sr. High School students have the option of ordering breakfast and lunch to take home for their at home Virtual Wednesday meal. If you would like a meal sent home with your child we are asking for you to pre-order each week by 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. Students will pick up their meal at the end of the school day. Jr./Sr. High School Virtual Student Book Pick Up All JRSR High School Virtual Students in grades 6 – 12 will be able to pick up their textbooks on Tuesday Sept. 15th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. We are asking that 1 parent enters the building at the HS Gym Lobby doors and walk up the ramp to the Jr. High Gym where you will have your temperature taken and then will be directed where to go to pick up the books. Once you have all of the textbooks you will exit the building at the Cafeteria (Ramp) door.

Attention all virtual learners and parents: Every online student is expected to turn in assignments by the due date set by their teachers. These assignments are not optional and will be graded and count towards the students’ grade. If students are not doing their work, they can be counted as zeros and could result in failing grades and/or classes. Also, it is very important that ALL virtual learners attend the Google Meets every Wednesday for every class. Furthermore, it is expected that the students attend the Google Meets on time according to the regular class schedule. Class Check in schedule is posted on the website under the Google Classroom link. These Meets are designed for teachers to check-in with students, take attendance, and offer any academic help as needed.

Elementary Arrival and Dismissal During the elementary arrival please make sure that your child is prepared to exit the vehicle once they get to the front of the car line. Make sure they have their mask, lunch if applicable, and back pack ready to go. If you are picking your child up at the end of the day have a paper with your child’s name, grade and teacher clearly displayed in the window.

The 13th annual Sand Creek Baseball golf outing will be taking place on Saturday September 19th at Woodlawn golf course. Hole sponsors, Door prizes, and teams are still needed. Reminder: 6-12th grade tomorrow is picture day. Face-2-face students will have their pictures taken during the school day. Virtual students will need to sign up for a scheduled time.
