Sand Creek Schools turns 100 years old!

On August 17, 1921, residents of four townships gathered at the corner of West Gorman Road and Sand Creek Hwy to begin the construction of the first consolidated school in Lenawee County and in the state of Michigan.  This ground-breaking was the culmination of 6 years of work as local leaders explored the somewhat controversial possibility of consolidating small rural districts.  The Sand Creek Consolidated Agricultural School No 1 was formed and its name is still etched in the limestone lintel over what used to be the main entrance to Sand Creek High School.  (Perkins, Laurie Catherine. In the Center of Four Townships:  The History of Sand Creek, Michigan, 2006.)

JOIN US!  At its August 16, 2021 board meeting, Sand Creek Schools Board of Education will be holding a short recognition ceremony to celebrate our centennial birthday.  The board meeting will open at this same site of the ground breaking – at the corner of Gorman Road and Sand Creek Hwy (weather permitting).  All are welcome to attend!
