School Safety Training

In April 2019, Sand Creek Community Schools was awarded the Michigan State Police Competitive School Safety Grant.  With these grant funds, the board purchased the Lockout Boot system from Lockout, USA.  The “Boot” system is a compact door barricade system designed to impede doorway entry.  This system consists of steel plates that were installed at interior doorways in both school buildings last summer/fall.  These plates are housed in a steel sleeve next to the interior door and can easily be pulled and engaged to barricade doorways in the unlikely event of a safety breech.

The “SmartBoot” part of this grant funded project is pretty cool and was just installed last month.  If a “Boot” anywhere in the district is pulled and engaged alarms will sound throughout the district to “Lock Down” – instructing staff district-wide to barricade doors.

While we have the hardware installed, we have not activated the “SmartBoot” part of the system and cannot do so until staff are trained on this device.  We will be holding this safety training on Monday morning, October 5th – thus the reason for the delay.  We will also be holding safety drills with students and staff using this Lockdown device in the coming weeks prior to activating this system.

REMINDER:  Monday, October 5th we will have a 3-hour delayed start.

Please feel free to contact the school district with any further questions.
